Is Myrth's mascot really a sloth named Daly?

You may have noticed that we send out Myrth’s newsletters from Daly the Sloth. That’s not a coincidence - we’ve actually thought about it a lot. 

So who is this Daly, anyway? 

Daly (pronounced “dail-ee”) embodies a lot of traits worth having: calmness, focus, perseverance, and intentionality. Daly does everything with a purpose in mind.  Why the name Daly? Well, our founder Emma McLaren thought, given our current gender landscape that having a gender-neutral name would be important. And on that note, Daly’s pronouns are they/them/their. It also doesn’t hurt that Daly is pronounced like “daily,” which reminds Emma (and the rest of the Myrth team!) to practice self-care daily. 

The name Daly also reminds us to focus on one day at a time and to include our Myrth protocol in each day. Daly acts as our guide on this journey towards better self-care and stronger connections. You are the hero of your own story, but it doesn’t hurt to have a guide to help you along. 

Why a sloth? Sloths move slowly because they have a very low metabolic rate, and they need to maximize their energy. Sloths, it turns out, aren’t lazy at all. They are doing exactly what they need to do, when they need to do it, to optimize their well-being.

Why is Daly represented in green in our logo? Green is the color of the heart center. Everything we do here at Myrth is for and by the heart. And while not everyone buys into chakras and all that, we here think that green is a great color regardless, don’t you? 

It might seem counterintuitive, but we’ve got a very good reason for choosing a sloth as our mascot. As our founder, Emma, explains:

“We have traditionally measured productivity by hours worked or energy used, but Myrth takes a different approach, believing in slowing down, embracing essentialism, reducing choice, and refusing to say you are busy. The sloth encircled in green encompasses our company values: doing more by doing less, slow tech, leading with heart, cherishing time well spent, and employing a mindful business strategy - hence our logo.”
